Can Guinea Pigs Eat Broccoli?

Guinea pigs can eat broccoli but although it is high in Vitamin C which is very good for them, it is also high in oxalates so only feed as an occasional treat if your guinea pigs like it.

A combination of oxalates and calcium if eaten regularly in large quantities can cause problems with bladder stones. This vegetable can also cause bloating so if you do give this to your piggies as a treat, make sure you only give them a very small amount.

Guinea pigs can eat the whole broccoli plant including the flower (head) stalk and leaves so you needn't waste any. Make sure you chop the stem into small pieces as it is quite fibrous. You can also feed the purple sprouting variety to your piggies.

While we like to cook our broccoli, you must not feed cooked broccoli to your guinea pigs. They are meant only to eat fresh raw vegetables.
