Maria’s Animal Shelter

Marias Animal Shelter tries to help as many animals as possible. The main animals that come into the shelter are rabbits and guinea pigs, either due to them becoming abandonded, mistreated or unwanted. The shelter became a registered charity in 2012 and is usually able to help around 300 animals a year. We do have a successful adoption programme and always ensure that adopted animals are home checked prior to leaving the shelter. Education is very important to us. Guinea pigs and rabbits are misunderstood. Manufacturers continue to make houses for them that are too small. Guineas pigs need special diets and not all places explain this to new owners. We always welcome questions from people and also have students learning with us at the shelter.

Grinny pig rescue is a small rescue based in Uckfield, East Sussex.  We have been taking in guineas for around 12 years now, with the aim to re-home to forever homes. Minimum hutch size required for adoption – 5ft x 2ft for a pair. All paperwork must be signed. Take back policy, regardless of reason. All homes checked. Bonding service is free of charge. April Lodge Guinea Pig Rescue was established in 2004 and is based in Eastry, near Sandwich in Kent. We have cared for and found new homes for over 1700 unwanted guinea pigs in our 12 year history. We endeavour to find guinea pigs handed over to us kind, loving, permanent homes following a poor start in life. All guinea pigs adopted or fostered from us receive free quarterly health checks – for life. Foal Farm Animal Rescue Centre

Foal Farm animal rescue centre is a registered charity based at Biggin Hill in Kent. Its aim is to take in as many sick, distressed and unwanted animals as possible and restore them to health and happiness. The animals are kept on a 26 acre farm where they are neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and given any other medical assistance necessary. Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals are then placed in secure and loving vetted homes. Horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and geese spend their natural lives at Foal Farm. No healthy animal is ever destroyed, and if no home can be found, the animal becomes a resident for the rest of its life. Foal Farm relies entirely on voluntary contributions, legacies and money made from fund raising events.

Merrypigs Guinea Pig Sanctuary

Merrypigs Guinea Pig Sanctuary is a rehabilitation and rehoming centre in Staffordshire. Merrypigs is run by a qualified RHA (rodent health advisor) and studying Rodentologist. Probably the littlest guinea sanctuary in the world, that means we have less pigs – and so more time to give to each one! Piggies will be accepted (dependant on space) under any circumstances and in any condition! These little ones will be brought back to health if needed, and acclimatised to handling before being found a perfect new forever home, as well as being bonded with a new friend if they are alone. Guinea pigs, after the excitement wears off, often become forgotten childrens pets. This mini-sanctuary aims to help a few of those piggies as well as all the others in need of a new home! Every pig is looked after as a member of our family. They are spot cleaned daily with a full clean weekly, and are provided with unlimited fresh hay to nibble on and burrow in! Piggies are regularly health checked and each one has some time in a run daily, to exercise and have fun, although piggies all live indoors. If a pig needs to see a vet, then it will happen as soon as possible – ill piggies are treated accurately and correctly, and kept in separate cages from the others to avoid the spread of disease. You can be sure that any pig you surrender to us will be loved and cared for, and found the best new home through us. Any pig you adopt will be very lucky indeed to have a lovely new home!
